Yay! Welcome to my LJ! My relationship with LJ is like Kara's first time with the Blackbird(Laura). Sometimes I post at least once every day and sometimes I post just once a month. This viper is friends only, so if you want to read my rantings, you may friend me and I will be more than happy to friend you back. My hideous icons are open for all, so I won't ask you to friend me because of that...I can assure you, it's not worth it. Whatever you decide to do, I hope that you enjoy your stay and live happily ever after. Following this little chapter, you'll find a short paragraph about me, but if you're really interested, there will also be a looooooooooong story about me. |
| (this is the short story).:THE PILOT:. |
My name is Emmi(Emzcu) and I'm 19 years old. I have brown eyes, hair and skin. I live in Finland. I have lived in: Addis Abeba, Loviisa, Harare, Helsinki and Espoo(translates into Ethiopia, Zimbabwe and Finland). I'm interested in mathematics, physics and astronomy. I'm probably going to become a maths teacher for senior high school, but I'd love to work for NASA. I love my computer and especially Photoshop 7.0. |
| (this is the first part of the long story).:FLYING BETWEEN THE BUCKET AND THE BEAST:. |
I was born in Addis Abeba's Gandhi-hospital in Ethiopia on the 4th of April in 1987. I lived in an orphanage for nine months and then one day I was on an airplane on my way to Finland. I was nine months old at this point and my new family was at the airport when I arrived. My new family included my mom, dad, Anna(-80) and Sampo(-82). From January -88 till November -88 we lived in Loviisa, but then we moved(due to my parents' work for the UN) to Harare, the capital of Zimbabwe(in Africa). We lived in a wonderful house that had a gigantic yard with a swimming pool, palm trees and everything. I really don't remember anything of those times, but we have hundreds of photos and videos, so I have some kind of picture of the time we lived there. We had two dogs there. Bauau, which was a black labrador retriever and Max, which was a big and black crossbreed. Unfortynately Bauau was hit by a car and we had to leave Max there when we moved back to Finland. We also had rabbits and my brother caught a frog once and made a lego castle for it. ^_^ In June -91 we moved back to Finland and we lived in South-Haaga in Helsinki. In November -92 we moved to Tapiola in Espoo, and we have lived here ever since. |
| (second part).:DO I LOOK LIKE A CYLON:. |
I have a little bit darker skin than Fazer's milk chocolate, and it rarely burns in the sun. It has a bad habit of getting tanned a bit too easily, so often when I go to school after summer, I'm almost black. I'm somewhat 175 cm long. Too long if you ask me. I have fairly big, darkbrown eyes and unsymmetrical eyebrows(yeah, I'm working on that one). I also have big lips and pierced ears. I have curly hair that I've dyed red, black, brown with almost blonde highlights, red again and now it's black once more. My hair's too short and as it grows it only feels as if it became shorter all the time. I have had my hair straightened and I've had small plaits in it(with and without extensions), but I'm still not content with it. Perhaps I should try dreadlocks or being bald. |
| (third part).:RICHARD GIBBS & BEAR McCREARY:. |
I love music. I couldn't live without it. I listen to it almost all the time. Even in my dreams I can hear it in my head. I think that the best music(based on those songs that I've ever heard) was made in the 80's and 90's. Nowadays music is actually quite boring...Well, not really...Some songs make me happy and I just want to dance when I hear those songs. As a matter of fact it's the artists that I don't like. First of all, what's with the "must-show-as-much-bare-skin-as-possible" -thing? I thought that the whole point of music is to listen to it and not watch nakedness on TV. And why isn't there any good melodies anymore? If you ask me, Simply Red, Tina Turner, Whitney Houston, Bob Marley and Leonard Cohen are far better than Beyoncé or Britney. From all types of music, I prefer instrumental music from movies. Especially if it's a movie that I like. I also like music from Disney movies. Particularly the music from The Lion King and Aladdin. At the moment, though, I've been listening to songs from series that I like. For example House MD and Grey's anatomy. I've also just recently discovered some great Finnish bands(Poets of the Fall and brightboy) that I also listen to a lot. As a matter of fact I can listen to almost everything except techno...I get a headache from it. In my opinion, there should be more hours in one day just so that we could have more time to listen to music. |
| (fourth part).:THE OPERA HOUSE ON KOBOL:. |
I have spent 6,5 years in different choires in my old school. I started from third graders' choire. From 4th grade till 6th grade I was in Sykkii-choire. From 7th grade till 9th grade I was in Nuorisokuoro(roughly youthchoire). I left the choire in the middle of my 9th grade because we had an extremely embarrassing performance in our school once and I didn't want to participate in it. I tried to get in our choire for senior high, but I didn't get in. It doesn't really matter that much. I wouldn't have had enough time for it anyways(or so I keep telling myself). I have also sang in a group almost every year since third grade. The group had four members and we sang and performed this Finnish Christmas-tale. We got quite a lot of money from our performances and every year I spent alomost all of my money to other people's Christmas presents. Nowadays my singing is strictly restricted to showers and the times that I'm drunk. |
| (fifth part).:METAMORPHOSIS ONE:. |
I played piano when I was little, but by fourth grade I really had had enough of it. My mom made me play the piano half an hour per day, but usually I just moved the musicbooks and told my mom that I had already played it earlier that day. So we sold our piano since no one played it anymore. But now I regret it because I'd like to have a piano that I could play every once in a while, but my mom says that I have to play the piano for a year before she will buy me a new one(definitely not going to happen). After Battlestar Galactica's second season I'm even more determined to maintain my skills, because I'd like to learn how to play Philip Glass' Metamorphosis One. Guitar's another instrument that I really like, though not nearly as much as piano. I actually have some "How to play guitar" -books, but I haven't got far with my guitar playing. Perhaps some day... |
| (sixth part).:SAGITTARIUS IS BLEEDING:. |
I have read books for as long as I can remember. I have always loved reading. It's so wonderful just to sit on a comfortable sofa and read a good book in dim lighting. I have always liked fantasy books. I read the Lord of the Rings when I was ten, but I didn't have enough patience to read the whole book, so I skipped fifty pages of the end thinking that nothing could happen anymore now that Sauron was defeated. But a few years later, I read it again and I was proven wrong and I've read it many times since. When I was 14 I did two reading diplomas and won David and Leigh Eddings' Belgarath the Sorcerer. That was probably the reason why I bought Polgara the Sorceress. And during that summer I read The Belgariad and The Malloreon. I practically spent all of my summer reading. The following autumn I read The Elenium and The Tamuli. So I had read all of David Edding's big fantasy series. Right now I think "What a waste of time"(the main reason to why I haven't continued reading his books), but I really loved those books when I was reading them and if I was happy, then I think that it was worth the while. I also loved(and still do) Robin Hobb's The Farseers and The Tawny Man Trilogy. I loved the books so much that I cried and cried after finishing the books. I just couldn't help it. I kinda had a crush on Fitz(the main character) and I didn't like the idea of it being all of it and that there was nothing else to read about him. I am so grateful of being able to have read those books. And I thank Robin Hobb for writing the sequel to The Farseers. I also love Harry Potter. Rowling is my god and I love people who write fantastic Harry Potter-fanfics. But at the moment, what I really like is Battlestar Galactica-fanfiction. Just show me a fic with Kara/Lee or Adama/Roslin and I'm definitely going to read that one. |
| (seventh part).:"YOU WANNA DANCE?":. |
I have danced for ages. I began my dancing with ballet, which I practised in Annantalo when we still lived in Helsinki. When we moved to Tapiola I stopped dancing there and switched to Espoo's Music Institute and continued dancing ballet there. Apparatus gymnastics also was one of my hobbies back then, as was the gymnastics in my school when I was 7 and 8 years old. When my ballet lessons moved a bit further away from my home, I quit it and started modern jazzdance. When I was on the third grade I started the first stage of dancing school and after four years I finally got it to completion. On my last year I also got a dancing stipend(200mk ~ 33€). Anyways, I continued dancing there(though not in the "dance school" anymore) and I danced there for the next three and a half years. But finally I got enough. On the autumn of 2003 I had four dancing lessons a week. Two in the Institute and two new lessons at Dance Center Ani. The new lessons were so much better that in the winter of 2003 I decided that I should, instead of spending money to the Institute, start using more money to the DCA's lessons. The next spring I had four lessons a week, but this time, they were all in DCA. Due to my final year in high school, I had to reduce my dancing to only two lessons a week, but I'm glad I did it because it turns out I barely have time for even that. It's true, that the lessons are only 60 minutes long, but we do so much more there than in the Institute, and normally I'm exhausted after the lessons and I barely have the energy to ride my bike back home. I love it, but as last spring showed me, work and my hobbies don't mix well. I didn't attend even half of my lessons and my mom really let me know how she felt about it.. |
